Smiley Face Killers Theory

Retired New York detectives Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte believe conflicts in the evidence of missing persons who have been found dead in bodies of water indicate a homicide rather than an accidental  drowning.  They believe  a gang of killers are attacking students on land then dumping them in bodies of water  leaving smiley face graffiti at the site.

The evidence the Oxygen TV program explores usually indicates from few water caused injuries and lack of decomposition that the student could not have been in the water the entire time they had been missing.

The TV series investigators are  unaware of visual subliminal distraction mental breaks as the cause of student disappearances to explain why the student did not die at the place or time they vanished.

Visual subliminal distraction is a preventable cause of an altered mental state.

In that condition the subject can wander in a fugue state making mistakes in perception, engaging people taking no precaution for dangerous situations leading to confrontation and injury.

This does not mean the death was not a homicide.

To understand this problem everyone has begin here.

Brian Welzein  21 year old  high achieving  Northern Illinois University college student vanished and was missing 77 days until his body washed up 30 miles away in Gary, Indiana. He became ill while out celebrating with friends after having only two drinks that night. He vanished from outside his hotel two blocks from Lake Michigan.  His condition says he could not have found the pedestrian tunnel two more blocks away  to get to the lake crossing under 10 lanes of busy traffic on Lake Shore Drive new years eve.

William Hurley, Navy vet, age 24, was attending a Boston Bruins hockey game with friends.  He texted his girlfriend living with him to pick him up early and was seen on video exiting the stadium having difficulty balancing to walk. When she drove up he was not there.  They exchanged phone messages but she could not find him.   He told her the battery for his phone was dying.  Six days later he was found in the Charles River one hundred yards upstream from where police dive teams searched for him in the water.  His phone was found believed to have been run over.  Forensic phone experts said that instead it had been destroyed by twisting, tearing the screen from the keyboard, then run over after it  had been destroyed. The battery was missing. Text messages recovered from the phone indicated he had been  agitated about something that night.
